Your Home is At Risk
- Termites annually cause more property damage than fire, flood, and earthquakes combined. This totals to approximately nearly $1.5
billion in damages to homes, businesses and personal effects.
- 60,000 termites can eat a one foot long 2 X 4 in approximately 6 months.
Termite Activity
In nature, termites are beneficial insects. We just happen to build our homes out of their primary food source - wood. Termites are social insects much like ants. They live in colonies in the ground. In South
Carolina, there are several termite colonies per acre. Mature colonies can contain several hundred thousand termites. Termites are fragile insects and typically access homes through wood in direct contact with
the ground or by building earthern shelter tubes. Homeowners normally become aware of termite infestations by finding shelter tubes on foundation walls and piers or by the presence of swarmers. Swarmers pose no
risk to your home as they are reproductive kings and queens and do not eat wood. They do, however, indicate the existence of a relatively "mature" colony. Ants also swarm and are often confused with termite swarmers.
If you do have a swarm, contact one of our offices to determine whether or not you are dealing with termites.

Formosan
An imported species, the Formosan termite is normally found in South Carolina's coastal counties. Formosans have larger colonies than our native subterranean species, with millions of individuals
which can be very destructive. Above ground infestations of Formosans are more common than other species.
